Rich football clubs could face star player tax

Rich football clubs could be forced to pay a luxury tax on their star players, according to a UEFA proposal.

The structure could follow the lead of US sports, where spending on players above a certain limit would be taxed then redistributed to less wealthy clubs.

UEFA spokesman William Gaillard said that alternative plans around cost restraint were difficult to implement, and tax or squad limits were ‘more promising ideas’, reported the FT.
