
Tax Cheek of Online Fraudsters
An internet gang has hacked into accountants’ computer systems and raided the details of self-employed workers, including their unique tax reference numbers.
The fraudsters then posed as accountants to the Government’s Revenue and Customs online saying that their clients had overpaid tax. They asked for the rebates to be deposited in a specially set up bank account.
