Ok so not the most dazzling insight but it is more to do with the scale than the notion itself. The firm predicts that spending cuts by the next government will need to be bigger than expected based on Treasury documents leaked last week to the Tories.

According to The Times report John Hawksworth, of PwC,  calculates that if the Conservatives want to preserve the health and overseas aid budgets and reduce the budget deficit faster than Labour, most departments will need to cut their spending by 20% over three years.

The revelation probably won’t shock many – even Gordon Brown is talking about cuts these days so expecting the worse is a given.
