You may have caught the reason for this admission some time back when Wesley hit the headlines for failing to pay his taxes. US tax authorites managed to get the star sentenced to three years in jail last year after he tried to fraudulently obtain $11.4 million of tax refunds between 1999 and 2001 and for willfully failing to file tax returns.
The conviction was considered a key victory for prosecutors who aggressively pursued the maximum penalty to deter others from trying to obstruct the IRS. At the time of the conviction Wesley attempted to curry some sympathy by calling himself an idealistic artist who was “unschooled in the science of law and finance.” For some reason, that didn’t really wash.
In his latest appeal, his attorneys asked a federal appeals court Friday to review the “unreasonable” three-year prison sentence. Unreasonable because he is not a mere mortal? Or unreasonable because if he had buggered the rest of the taxpaying public for a few billion more he could have called it a bailout, risen from the dead so to speak and set up a hedge fund? No, probably just because he’s a film star and it’s America.
Wesley has had more numeric problems recently (See: Wesley – of dubious numeric ability – “gets ‘Sniped’”) after he got caught out by some Ponzi scammers.

I see Wesely wants a new trial. He believes it wasn’t fair. I don’t know much about his case but it doesn’t look good. I don’t think he has proof of jury misconduct like his defence claims. But we’ll see. Would like to see his movies make comeback. Underated actor if you ask me.
