If you haven’t heard about the Tiger Woods scandal then you have either been sailing on the wrong side of the Gulf or you have spent too much time focusing on spreadsheets this week.
The latest news on the matter is rather more horrifying then the thought of a famous, successful, grown man misbehaving out of sight of his family before having to publicly flog himself whilst trying to resurrect his marriage/sort out the emotional mess.
When did that idea that a family (even at that level) is actually a business become quite so flagrant? News about alleged rearrangements to his prenup have hit the US press, from The Daily Beast:
The Daily Beast has learned exclusively that the beleaguered golfer is negotiating an immediate $5 million payout to his wife—and revising her prenup to give her as much as $55 million more to stay with him two more years.
Traditionally it’s a divorce that makes a financial dent for a wealthy athlete like Tiger Woods. But it appears that in Tiger’s case, it’s going to cost him to stay with his wife, Elin Nordegren, the mother of their two children.
Yes you read that right; if the reports are to be believed, Tiger is apparently going to pay his wife to stay with him. i.e. Someone has done a cost benefit on this particular asset and it seems like the potential revenues justify a significant rise in the cost base even if margins take a bit of a squeeze. (We would like to get Harriet Harman’s view on this but haven’t spoken to her at this time). Not only that, if she stays with him for even longer she will get paid even more (up to $80m) subject to certain requirements:
she’ll need to stay with Tiger another seven years, be a dutiful wife in showing up with him at social events and in public as if they were still the perfect couple, and sign a nondisclosure form that will prevent her from ever telling her story
What a job.
