Accountancy Profession Definitely Sexist
When it comes to pay…
The pay-gap between male and female accountants is nearly 50%, a new study has found.
According to a Career Benchmarking Study released by the ICAEW and recruiters Robert Half, the average basic salary for a male accountant over 45 is £98,400, while their female colleagues’ average is £60,500.
Some other interesting stuff – main findings from the 2009 survey include:
* The average income of an ACA is £102,700 (£81,100 salary + £21, 600 bonus
* Males’ average salaries are nearly 50% higher than females’
* Average salaries are around 42% higher outside the UK at £106,900
(based on global region figures)
* 42% of ACAs are negatively affected by the credit crunch

Perhaps you should also quote the bit that undermines the headline entirely:
“The differential [between M and F salaries] reflects in part at least that male ACAs are typically older (46 against 40 for females), longer qualified (18 and 14 years respectively) and more likely to be in a permanent full-time role (88% and 72%). They also spend longer hours at work (45 v 38 hours
per week).”
