Reminiscent of credit millionaires piloting convertible Bentleys around in summer 2007; if it’s not all there, most Brits can still manage to put on a good show.

The latest trend is phoney prosperous high streets.

Daily Mail: As High Streets are decimated by the recession – fake business facades have been installed to create the illusion that shops are still occupied.

North Tyneside Council is trialling the new window treatment that at first glance gives the impression that units are occupied.

Which is a nice idea and far less depressing than facing up to the reality. Trouble is, if the lessons of 2007 are anything to go by; people might be fooled into thinking we are actually a rich and prosperous.
