Speed cameras – hated by drivers (even if they grudgingly admit that they may save lives); loved by government. A dull circular debate.
But there are occasions when the angry car lobby have a fair point about the cameras as revenue generators. One camera that has been placed on the M6 near Carlisle for a matter of weeks comfortably falls into that category. It will have generated nearly £500,000 in just two months – the equivalent of £3million a year.
Daily Mail: In little more than five weeks, this three-mile length of road cutting through the scenic borderlands of North-West England has smashed the British record for speed camera victims.
How long before we see the whole M6 lined with yellow boxes designed primarily to pay off the national debt?
