Clash of the Dragons: Duncan Bannatyne v James Caan
What are they clashing over? Tax Status…
It’s not the relative flashiness of their cars or the size of their bank balances but the sexy subject of tax status that has the dragons breathing fire. Meaning it’s not just politicians squabbling about non-dom status.
Bannatyne recently penned an article in the Telegraph criticising Caan’s non-dom status:
DT: Writing in his Daily Telegraph column, Mr Bannatyne, 60, said: “He is venturing into the health club industry. As I pay UK tax on all of the earnings that fund my lifestyle, and corporation tax on all of the profits made by my businesses, I am clearly at an unfair disadvantage. It’s just as well James and I get on.”
We can’t quite work out what he is complaining about though; Bannatyne is worth £320m compared to Caan’s £65m according to the article. Trying to keep the little guy down, how ungracious.
