Hands Avoids Risking Tax Status… and Visits to Family in UK

You may recall the recent news about Guy Hands, founder of Terra Firma Capital…and a man who really dislikes taxes…

Charles Tyrwhitt UK

…so much so that he asks that his family come to visit him in Guernsey so that he doesn’t risk his non-resident status.

Well, the poor chap has been having some bother with a recent purchase; record company EMI – exiting artists, massive financial losses and litigation of various sorts.

One of which involved a spat with Citigroup who were attempting to get the court venue moved from New York to London. Had the motion to move the trial been granted, Hands’ non-resident status could have been jeopardized by court trips to London and he may have opened himself up to tax liabilities in England. And even perhaps, been forced to pop in and see his family.

Luckily for Hands, Citi’s bid was rejected by a federal judge in New York so he can breathe a sigh of relief and concentrate on the important things. Like keeping those pesky artists from walking out.
