Twitter is to allow advertising on its site for the first time. The micro-blogging site is venturing into the advertising market to generate some cash. As yet the company is yet to make a profit and has only just begun to do deals to raise revenue by selling search results.
The social networking site said advertisers would be able to buy “Promoted Tweets” that will appear on Twitter’s search results pages.
Twitter is a privately held company and does not report earnings, but its website says: ‘While our business model is in a research phase, we spend more money than we make.’
Not for long.
