Grant Thornton expects 23% less visitors to World Cup than forecast
If South Africans have seen how (some) English fans can behave abroad, they might be hoping they’re in that 23%…
Obviously we aren’t tarring all England fans with that brush. And we doubt there are 110,000 hooligans who could afford to head over there but we’d understand if South Africans they felt that way…
That aside, it isn’t the best news for South Africa which will be hoping for a large revenue boost during the World Cup. Grant Thornton predicts that the number of foreign visitors to the football in South Africa will be about 110,000 fewer than originally forecast, according to the FT.
A report by GT shows that the recession, slow ticket sales in Africa and high prices will combine to depress the number of arrivals for the event in June.
