Freddie Mac, the government sponsored US mortgage lender, is to ask for $10.6bn (£7bn) in state aid, aafter seeing a loss of $8bn during the first three months of 2010. Here’s what the boss had to say.

“Though more needs to be done, we are seeing some signs of stabilization in the housing market, including house prices and sales in some key geographic areas.”
