Taxman busted for stealing
You might feel all taxmen rob taxpayers but this one actually did…
HM Revenue & Customs officer Geoffrey Eley, 44, of Redditch, Worcs, worked collecting overdue payments from taxpayers. According to Accountancy Magazine, between 2001 and 2007 he visited businesses and individuals door-to-door, taking cash payments ranging from £1,000 to £28,904 from 15 taxpayers which he then pocketed.
In total he stole around £84,950.
He has been jailed for two and a half years after pleading guilty.
